I've been thinking about the meditation we did on Friday at the leadership meeting.
In this parable, the 3rd servant saw his master as a hard man, and ended up burying his mina, but the master’s response to the servant is especially interesting: I will judge you by your own words, you wicked servant! If you knew me to be a hard man, why didn’t you at least put my money on deposit so I could collect the interest?
In other words, there was a right and obvious action (putting the money on deposit to earn interest) that the servant should have taken considering his view of the master (as a hard man), but he did not do it. Even if the servant had wrongly seen the Master as a hard man, there was still a faithful way to serve Him, but the servant refused to do it.
Our attitude in serving our Master will be determined by our view of Him. But the parable also shows that we will also be judged by our view of Him. If on that terrible day we are given the chance to make our excuses before God as to why we were or weren’t faithful to Him, we will most certainly be judged by the very excuses we offer.

very interesting... As for me, I think I can relate to 2nd servant more. In his point of view, he probably saw first servant earning ten more minas and third servant earning nothing. He had a choice between 2 extremes, yet he chose to stay in the middle. So why couldn't he replicate what the first servant was doing? So in my mind, he did just enough to get by which totally reflects the state of my attitude. I think most of us are very good at avoiding the negative extreme since we know it is not good to be on that side. Most of us know at least that much, but are we really doing anything to be like the first servant? Lukewarm heart. Certainly something that is not foreign to me.
ReplyDeleteI think the important thing to learn from this parable is that unless we are profitable to the master in whatever degree of fruitfulness, the consequences can be quite fatal. Now that doesn't mean that we should work for Christ with the kind of attitude and fear of the 3rd servant. But it does mean that we should work for Christ because we know and experience the power of his love in our lives. Love is the only right motivation for working for Christ. As one hymn writer said of Christ's love, "love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all." I believe that so long as we love Christ and know of his amazing love, we will be fruitful in the work of God.
ReplyDeleteHow is your devotion? Hope and pray that God will pour out his blessings upon your time with Him. Third day of "Through The Word.." I was filled with thanksgiving and gratitude that God opened my eyes through the Holy Spirit to recognize the Light and follow that Light. Many people in this world just like the people in the train (in the movie we watched on Sunday)have not known what Jesus had done for them. Didn't you all desperately want to go inside of screen and tell people in the train to know that their lives were spared because of the precious sacrifice that the little boy (Jesus) made. Some may die never knowing that there was a wonderful savior, he came and died for their sins. But there was a girl in the train saw the light and understood who she was in light of who God is and what Christ has done for her. What a transformation that has taken a place in her life!!!
ReplyDeletePeople no longer live in the darkness but in the Light. Light of God..." Let light shine out of darkness made his light shine in our hearts to give
us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ." 2 cor.4:6
